This Just In...I'm 38

After nearly a year of blogging, I am finally on Mom's radar (Hi, Mom!) and she was apparently reading some posts out loud to my stepfather, starting with my recent post on my file-a-palooza.

My stepfather wrote me an email that contained the following:
One question: Was the experience so uplifting that it literally took a year off your life? I've done the math, and do not want to break any bad news to you but you and I are close to 20 years apart. That would make me 58 in 2005 and you would be.....38?
Geez, first Pepper...and now this? I'm THIRTY-SEVEN people...THIRTY...oh. Ahem. Pardon me.

I'm 38.

Since Pepper is rarely wrong, I really should have listened then. But she's so gracious I actually had her convinced I was still 37. I have never before flaked on my age. I wonder if this is a symptom of having my first ever birthday on the road back in August (I do not recommend this, even though I was with co-workers I count among my friends). Or maybe I am just so focused on my finances that all sense of time has vanished?

Maybe I am just 37 for the second year in a row?

The point is....well....there is no point. Other than I am 38. Not 37. That's really my only point. Oh, and that Pepper is always right.

  1. LOL. This is what I have to look forward to in a decade? ;)

That's ok, at least your parents know how old you are. Mine can never remember.

  2. don't feel bad caitlin, you're not the only one. i could swear the other day i was 48, but i'm actually 47 (according to my cousin, who is 10 days younger than me, and like pepper, is always right).

i hate to break this to you but these brain cramps don't get any better with age...

i really enjoy your blog. keep up the good work!

  3. We old geezers have a hard time keeping these things straight, don't we? Next you'll be forgetting your own name and it's all downhill from there!

  4. I thought it was a woman's perogative to freeze her age at strategic points in her life. I am 34 (going to be 35 in February), yet my eldest sister who is 11 years older than me is 37 according to her (she says claiming to be 39 just seems too obviously a lie - I don't understand that logic but then she IS the big successful VP so what do I know?)

It was slightly indelicate of your stepfather to point out your correct age - if you want to be 37 then be 37. But then it is always the family that blows your cover. I only found out my sister was claiming to be 37 when a neighbor of hers seemed puzzeled when I told her my age. She knew my sister was the eldest of 5 so if I was 34 and she was 37 and none of the siblings were twins, the three between us were a medical miracle! Oops!

  5. Well, if I *wanted* to be 37 then I agree with you but I posted about it because I literally forgot! LOL

I just forgot I had another birthday in there...it sort of flew by without much fanfare this year and the mind just didnt fully register the transition. It's like it didnt stick.
